D.B.A. Trajan® Wealth Insurance Solutions. Trajan Wealth Advisors act as Insurance Agents when selling annuities and/or life insurance. Annuities are not Advisory products. They are insurance products with differing features, benefits, risks, and costs. Different products may have different features and benefits. Any income guarantee is backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurance company. Your Agent will assess your suitability for such products.
Some annuities offer income riders. This is an optional feature that comes at an additional annual cost, typically ranging from 0.95% to 1.50%. An income rider, generally called a Guaranteed Lifetime Withdrawal Benefit (GLWB), is typically found on a fixed indexed annuity (FIA). There are two values working side-by-side in this case with a FIA with an Income Rider. There is the Account Value, which tracks real cash value in the contract, and a Benefit Base, a contractually defined calculation method used to determine future lifetime income distribution amount. The fee for the rider (GLWB) is deducted directly from the actual cash Account Value, not the Benefit Base. In flat or negative index years, this fee creates net negative charge, reducing the Account Value. Before the income rider (GLWB) is activated to generate income, the Benefit Base grows at a contractual rollup rate (typically 5% to 8% simple or compound interest) for a designated period, providing a predictable future income path regardless of market volatility. This yields a contractually guaranteed annual income stream that continues for life, even if the underlying Account Value is completely depleted to zero. The contractual rollup rate has no impact on Account Value.
