Start With a Tax Strategy Review

We'll walk through what's working, what is costing you flexibility, and what's got a deadline attached. Bring your returns!

Tax Time: It isn’t just in April.

Most people see their tax preparer once a year. By then, the decisions that mattered are often already made.

Filing a return only records what already happened. Tax Planning changes what happens. Roth conversion timing, withdrawal sequencing, gain harvesting, and charitable strategy all have to be decided before December 31st, not in April of the next year.

Common Questions About Estate Planning

Preparation reports what already happened. Planning changes what happens while the year is still open — which account you draw from, when you convert, when you harvest a gain. Trajan does both with in-house CPAs.

Conversion windows tend to open when taxable income dips, often after you stop working but before Social Security and required minimum distributions begin. Whether one makes sense depends on your current bracket, your projected bracket, and where the money to pay the tax comes from. We can model it across several years, rather than one.

There is no single right order for everyone. Sequencing across taxable, tax-deferred, and Roth balances affects your bracket each year and how much of your Social Security is taxable. We build the order around your income plan rather than a rule of thumb.

Distributions from traditional IRAs and 401(k)s are generally taxed as ordinary income in the year you take them, and state treatment varies. The planning question is usually not whether you will pay, but in which years and alongside what other income.

Both. Trajan Tax prepares and files federal and state returns. Because the tax team sits alongside your advisor, they can access the same account records.

Not for your first filing. Trajan Tax can prepare and file one return for you without an investment management relationship. Continuing past that first filing does require becoming a Trajan Wealth client, because the planning work runs year over year rather than season to season. Clients also pay a reduced preparation fee.
